3 keys to maintaining your willpower

Today I would like to reflect on what we all know as willpower. For this I will start by analyzing each of the two words that make up this concept.

The force it is the energy that allows us to modify the reality that surrounds us. The Will it is the focus that allows us to choose where to place that force. A force without will it will modify aspects of reality that are not important to us. A will without strength It will not allow us to modify anything and will leave our reality unaltered.According to all this, below I give you 3 keys to constantly maintain your willpower

1. You must be very clear about what your objective is

No matter how strong you are, if you are not clear about what your goal is, it will be very difficult for you to achieve it. Imagine you have one wood plank very big in front of you. Somewhere on the board there is a nail sticking out. Your mission is to finish nailing it. They give you a hammer and cover your eyes with a bandage. You start hammering at different places on the board without getting close to the nail. In a short time the forces leave you without having reached your goal.

Any strength is limited. The will allows us to apply it correctly on the chosen objective.

2. The objective must be of great value to you

Many times our willpower is lost along the way because we really we are not so interested in achieving the objective we pursue.

Continuing with the example of the wooden plank, imagine that you discover that the sensation of the hammer crushing the wood is pleasant to you. Your goal is not to crush wood but surprisingly that feeling is not as bad as you thought. Every time you think less on your nail and you start to get a taste of wood. Your initial goal has lost much of its value and in the end you have run out of strength.

If your goal is to lose weight, lThe desire to lose weight must be greater than the desire to eat certain foods. If the desire to eat the ice cream in the photo is greater than your desire to lose weight, you will never lose weight. It is a matter of simple physics. If your goal is to finish your degree, the desire to study must be greater than the desire to go to the beach with friends.

3. The objective must be realistic

Many times they tell us that about "Think big". Surely you have heard the phrase that says "Aim for the moon because if you fail you will reach the stars ". I like this way of thinking. However, I also believe that when we set excessive goals we run the risk of reduce our willpower.

When we do something for the first time our strength is limited. Big targets usually require a dose of force so great that it is beyond our capabilities. When a force is applied to a muscle greater than it can withstand, it tears and loses all strength.

You should start with small and realistic goals. When you have gotten used to this intensity of force, you will be able to climb a new step and seek a greater goal..

I don't think anything I've said here is new to you. These are common sense concepts and ideas. My intention is that you visualize the idea of willpower as something finite and limited that is found within each one of us. If we use this force correctly we will achieve all the objectives that we set ourselves.

I don't think one person has more willpower than another. You have simply learned how to use it more efficiently.

Finally, I leave you a video that provides scientific evidence to the concept of willpower.
