1- Bonil

Rodrigo Xavier Bonilla Zapata, better known as Bonil, born in the city of Quito on April 8, 1964.

He is considered one of the most representative cartoonists of Ecuador. His professional career began in 1985 drawing for many magazines such as Glance and the diary The universe.

He is a member of “Cartooning for Peace” and “CartonClub the Latin cartoon club”. He was the creator of the First International Meeting “Graphic Humor and Journalism. He was nominated in 2015 by Index On CensorShip for the “Freedom of Expression Awardas”.

He is recognized for his great work criticizing the authorities of his country, as a great defender of freedom of expression.

2- Asdrúbal de la Torre

He was born in the city of Quito in 1927. He graduated as a doctor in the area of ​​pediatrics. His passion was journalism, the title of which was later given to him thanks to his daily work..

His work as a cartoonist began in 1951 producing sports cartoons in the newspaper “The Sun of Quito". 

In 1952 he began to draw daily cartoons for the newspaper El Comercio and since 1986 he began to draw for the newspaper “Today".  

3- Galo Galecio

His birth was on June 1, 1906. He stood out for making engravings, paintings, sculptures and caricatures. He made his first cartoons at the tax school in Vinces.

Later, he benefited from a scholarship to study graphic arts and mural painting at the National Academy of Fine Arts in Mexico..

In addition, he made several exhibitions in the country and abroad. I create different murals like "People of the town ”.  

Other of his murals were "History of Ecuador" Y "Defense and protection of the Ecuadorian worker".

4- Marcelo Chamorro

He was born in San Gabriel on January 23, 1960. Graduated as an architect from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism of the Central University of Ecuador. Like Bonil he was a great defender of the rights of freedom of expression.

Through his publications in the newspaper "Trade”Many of his cartoons have been based on criticizing the country's authorities.

Through his art, he expressed the need to rescue history, in order to judge more objectively the most important events in his country..

5- Roque Maldonado

Despite having graduated as an Architect, he had great talents as a draftsman.

His first publications were for the sports magazine "Basketball court", then he began to publish his cartoons for the newspaper El Comercio since 1958, providing humor through them to the national and international reality.

As an artist always concerned about the events in his country, the political criticism expressed through his cartoons has always pleased the Ecuadorian public, drawing the widest smile on their faces and drawing the loudest laughs from them..
