How to quit smoking by overcoming mental dependency

Give up smoking has become a difficult goal to achieve for many smokers.

Smoking is a very dangerous addiction because it controls the smoker to some extent. The person himself believes that he receives pleasure when in reality all he is doing is self-deception.

Most people think that they can appease the needs of their own body and give themselves some momentary benefit. Many people say they need to smoke when they finish eating because it relaxes them. Others turn to tobacco in times of stress because they believe it eases their tension and nervousness.

Nothing could be further from the truth, in fact the only thing that smokes receives are mental and physical restrictions in your body and no type of improvement. Addictions, including the one we are dealing with now, are believed to cause a kind of dependency in our body. What we all know as the "monkey".

Numerous studies show that the dependency or "monkey" that is created in someone's (physical) organism when they suddenly stop an addiction is infinitely small if we compare it with the one that the person creates himself in his mind, for guilt of said addiction. We could say that there is a mental monkey much stronger than him physical monkey.

Yes, you read it right. You yourself are the one who creates your own dependence, whether it is more serious or less.

A smoker when he decides give up smoking, you experience physical changes that are actually very beneficial but are not used to.

How can i really quit smoking?

Surely you have ever heard a phrase like this:

-"I like to smoke, it causes me pleasure, tranquility, calm, it relaxes me and I have no reason to quit".

If someone does not want to leave something, without a doubt they will never leave it, but the problem lies in trying to make this person see the reality of their situation and not the fictitious reality that their world of smoke provokes in their mind.

-"You really don't like smoking like you think, it doesn't cause you any kind of pleasure or relaxes you, quite the opposite"

The effect of tobacco on the human body is very simple and is summarized in that smoking creates a altered state and emotional disorder, a kind of continuous stress that is only alleviated when that person starts smoking a cigarette again.

It is true that the effect of smoking causes a small decrease in said stress and anxiety, but you have to realize that this state in which you find yourself has already been caused by tobacco itself.

In short, when someone smokes they are easing the problem that their own addiction has put in their body. And in the vast majority of addictions the same thing happens. To be addicted to something is to be in a state in which addiction is the problem itself and also the temporary solution.

The smoker cannot give up smoking because their body have a level of anxiety and tension (caused by the tobacco itself) greater than that of a person who does not smoke and only the act of smoking alleviates this problem for a short period of time.

When a person discovers that they have entered a circle of dependency in which they resort to a problem to alleviate the damage that the same problem is causing, that is when they begin to realize what it means to smoke and not smoke.

How can I overcome my mental dependency on the act of smoking?

The key lies inlearn to listen to yourself. It is something very simple, but not everyone is capable of doing it..

I remember a person who came to me and said:

-"The thing is, when I'm in a work meeting lasting several hours, the moment we take a break, I run out to smoke a cigarette and then the relief it produces is immense"

This person has been without smoking for several hours with the focused awareness of the hours you have not smoked a cigar and how well one could use. A false well-being has been created and a lie that has ended up being believed.

Because in reality, this person has generated tension and anxiety trying to make time pass faster so that rest comes. Then it is logical that smoking reduces both stress and anxiety. However, a awareness to understand that this whole process has been imagined and created by herself without any need. A constant listening to your own thinking.

I give you a very simple example that perfectly describes what a smoker feels when he smokes a cigarette and why he creates a fictional mental dependence.

Imagine that one day you have an impressive headache and a friend of yours tells you that he has discovered a syrup that he takes that instantly takes away his headaches.

You listen to your friend and buy the miracle syrup. You take it and suddenly your headache goes away.

"Incredible, this syrup is wonderful!", you will think.

The next day, the pain reappears, but with greater force than yesterday and of course you resort to the syrup, since you have verified its incredible effectiveness.

You take it again and ... the pain disappears instantly, again!!.

But the next day when you wake up, your head seems like it is going to explode from the impressive pain that you have, much greater than the previous days.

You go to the doctor and he tells you to show him the syrup that you talk so much about and that is supposedly taking away your headaches. When the doctor examines it, he tells you that this syrup is only minimizing the pain, but that in turn it is causing an allergy that is increasing your pain in general..

"Stop taking that and the pain will go away in a few days without having to take anything" .- your doctor tells you.

What are you doing? Do you throw away the wonderful syrup that was taking away all your discomfort at once??

Sure you would think about it, right?.

Solutions

The real problem of the smoker is a mental and not physical problem as we have talked about before. When you tell yourself that you need to smoke to stay calmer, it is you who is creating that nervousness and tension. No one is causing it, just your thoughts.

The only thing tobacco gives you is torture, in addition to increasing your base levels of anxiety and tension. You only feel a certain improvement when the cigarette on duty lowers these levels. However, the problem today is that people who decide to quit smoking do so using willpower and resisting themselves..

You do not have to stop smoking because you tell yourself that it is convenient for you or because you understand that it is harmful to your health, but everything is based on understanding what tobacco really gives you ... nothing!!.

When you manage to talk to yourself and discover that a cigarette gives you absolutely nothing, you start to see that you are doing something that doesn't really make any sense. This makes it relatively easy for you to quit smoking. In fact, the people to whom I have explained this method and have understood it themselves, have managed to quit tobacco in just four days.

Do you know that people who occupy their mind with some type of thought other than smoking, spend their time in a much more pleasant way? This is so when you discover that you yourself can become your worst obstacle and at the same time your best help to jump it.

I assure you that when you free your mind from something as useless as tobacco, you begin to discover the improvements that the "non-smoker" has: it is significantly reduced your base level of anxiety and tension, so you don't need anything additional.

Focus that the problem is not tobacco but the concept you have of it, the concept you have of what it brings you and the concept you have of your own mental and physical state. Quitting smoking is as easy as you want to do it. As easy as your ability to give everything the place it deserves.

Does tobacco deserve to take up so much space in your mind? Have you sincerely analyzed what it really brings you so that you can make it so important yourself?

Drinking is necessary because it gives you what your body needs, and if you don't drink your health is in danger.

Eating is necessary because it provides you with the basic ingredients for your body to function, and if you don't eat your health is in danger.

Smoking is not necessary because it does not bring you anything except torture and unnecessary burdens on your body, and if you don't smoke your health improves.

Mentalize yourself about these points, center them in your mind and act accordingly. You will see that quitting smoking is not that difficult as many say.
