In a cafeteria a couple talks about their relationship. He tells her that he has doubts. And she breaks down crying. But do not cry! He says, What will people think?
In a store a girl is trying on a brown hat, she thinks it suits her, it is pretty. She feels pretty. He thinks about putting it on but, What are people going to think? What if they think I'm weird or too modern?
At work a boy is busy. The morning is being hellish. The task increases by the minute. A friend sends him a WhatsApp, he sees it glancingly. He does not have time to answer at the moment, but if he does not answer at the moment, What will your friend think? What about him? Who does not want to stay? What is not important enough to answer a WhatsApp?
The answer is that people think what they want. You don't have to justify yourself to others. Everyone is here to live their life, not to meet the expectations of others. The answer is that thinking about what they will say is the opposite of freedom.
We are social beings, although increasingly individualistic. Sometimes you say you don't care what other people think. But you wait sitting looking at Facebook to see if someone puts a "Like" on the last photo you have.. If there are a lot of "likes" you feel good. If there are few you feel more alone. You're actually just as lonely. Or just as accompanied.
The "Likes" of Facebook only have the importance that you give it. Like almost everything.
The One Who Will Say is like an ancient God that everyone believes in. Don't wear those clothes, don't go out with that foreign boy, don't stand out, don't be silly, don't say you're sensitive, don't show yourself at all, What are they going to think? That you are softer than a flan?
You don't need everyone's approval. So that? The president of the government does not even have it and he has become one. For the support of another group of people who do support him of course. Not even everyone likes Brad Pitt. Well that may not have been a good example.
I am not saying that it is easy to be free. In the world there are many barriers against it, the system, money, stereotypes, prejudices, appearances, advertising ... Everything has a channel for people to be in a certain way. But there is a great tool to jump the barriers; the brain, the reason.
Think. Open the mind, questioning things, if it is more important what I want to do or what so and so thinks. If my dreams or what I think are more important. And so a long endless list.
On the other hand, what people say is only what people say. Nothing more. It is not a reality. Nor does it have to be true. Not all people will say the same. Because of course, what they will say is many different people, and they surely do not think the same.
When the girl in the second scene puts her hat on, if she finally put it on and went out into the street. Surely there would be a variety of thoughts What a horrible hat, my God! Go cool and top with a hat! Oh what a nice hat! I don't know why they don't wear hats anymore when they feel great! What a beautiful girl! Who would go out with a hat on the street! What has this been believed? Where do you think you go with a hat on your head?
It can happen that there are these thoughts and many more and it can also happen that there are none. That the girl in the hat walks all over the city and nobody does not even look at her, or does not look at her hat, and does not care about her or her hat.
When we care a lot about what they will say, maybe it is because we give too much importance to ourselves. Think that you are not so important. Maybe it will give you security.
If you like hats, put on a hat!
