Sultan's dream

In a very distant country, to the east of the great desert lived an old Sultan, owner of an immense fortune.

The Sultan was a very temperamental man as well as superstitious. One night he dreamed that he had lost all his teeth. Immediately after waking up, he sent for one of the wise men of his court to urgently ask him to interpret his dream.

- What a disgrace my Lord! - exclaimed the Wise - Each fallen tooth represents the loss of a relative of Your Majesty.

- What insolence! - Shouted the enraged Sultan - How dare you say such a thing to me? Out of here!

He called his guard and ordered a hundred lashes given him, for being a bird of bad omen. Later, he ordered another Sage to be brought to him and told him what he had dreamed of. The latter, after listening carefully to the Sultan, said:

- Excellency Lord! Great happiness has been reserved for you. The dream means that your grace will have a long life and will outlive all its relatives..

The Sultan's face lit up with a big smile and he ordered that he be given a hundred gold coins. When he was leaving the Palace, one of the royal advisers said to him in admiration:

- It's not possible! Your interpretation of the Sultan's dreams is the same as that of the first Sage. I don't understand why he punished the first one with a hundred lashes, while he rewards you with a hundred gold coins.

- Remember well my friend, "replied the second Sage," that everything depends on the way things are said ... The truth can be compared to a precious stone. If we throw it against someone's face, it can hurt, but if we put it in a delicate packaging and offer it with tenderness, it will certainly be accepted with pleasure ...

- Do not forget my dear friend - continued the wise man - that you can communicate the same truth in two ways: the pessimistic that will only emphasize the negative side of that truth; or the optimist, who will always know how to find the positive side of the same truth ".
