One of the main reasons that leads parents to a psychological consultation are problems related to the education of their children: challenging behaviors, disobedience, disinterest in housework and even insults and violence. What can we psychologists do?
First, by means of a psychological interview with both the parents and the child, as long as the child is old enough to answer our questions, we will assess the needs of the consultation and establish some objectives that will be the engine of our intervention. That is, we will do a psychotherapeutic work with the child or adolescent in order to eliminate these maladaptive behaviors and we will work for finitiate and establish more appropriate behaviors.
For a therapy to be effective in children and adolescents around the elimination and establishment of certain behaviors, it is necessary to work with the parents. Therefore, we will use the positive education, inside of the cognitive-behavioral theoretical model. By means of the positive education We will offer techniques and tools to parents to overcome possible future situations that may become problematic for the family. Therefore ... What do we want or rather, what are the objectives of positive education??
In the first sessions, concepts of education will be worked on: What does education consist of? How to promote an education supported by a positive attitude? That is, we will teach parents to change their attitude towards the education of their children..
Next, we will provide and help to understand the theoretical concepts of the behavior modification model. They will learn which behaviors are normal and which are not, and why positive education is the most suitable for behavior modification.
In subsequent sessions, we will offer tools and techniques to use in the education of your children, with the aim of learning new behaviors or eliminating others. Likewise, a series of sessions will be dedicated to the behaviors that the child / adolescent has learned and / or eliminated but does not perform or does not want to perform, that is, they are not motivated for change.
And finally, in the last sessions the psychologist will focus on how parents make use of the concepts and techniques learned during the intervention based on the positive education.
