Set goals and go for them

Changes are not easy ... or are they? What is clear is that they are not achieved overnight. The secret of change is motivation, is what moves us and pushes us.

To find your motivation you have to visualize your goal, your objective and of course be aware of your strengths and weaknesses.

Take a look at what you've achieved so far and ask yourself these questions:

  • Is this that I have now what I really wanted?
  • I go to my work happy and I feel fulfilled?
  • If i wasn't afraid what would i do?

Later, think of you in 5 and 10 years. Visualize yourself. Are you still doing what you are doing now? Can you imagine yourself in the same house with the same routines? Would you like to see yourself in 5 years speaking another language? Maybe traveling? Painting, writing, cooking like a pro? Making a living with your hobby? Being an expert in a specific field?

If you imagine exactly the same as now, fine. Maybe you have gotten where you wanted to go and that is great, although you can always learn, you can grow and you can improve.

Know your strengths and weaknesses

If, on the other hand, you have long-term goals, this is the time to start. It's never too late to set a goal. There are people who study careers with 70 years. Thanks to distance education and the great offer that can be accessed from our own home, it is possible to do so.

Others have spent their lives working in an office and suddenly they have discovered something that they are good at, they have trained and have set up their own business with which they now earn a living and are much happier. When you like your job, it does not mean a "job".

And what about learning a language or becoming an expert in your hobby. If you like photography, can you imagine setting up your own exhibition?

What about social relationships? That can also improve. And self-esteem, self-confidence ...  Anything that motivates you is possible, yes, it is very important that it motivates you.

To set yourself a realistic goal, it is important to be aware of your strengths and weaknesses. Knowing the exact moment to use your strengths is key to getting a little closer to your goal. In the same way, weaknesses also indicate the aspects of your life in which you have to work more..

Divide your goal to reduce anxiety

If you want to achieve it, you have to try. Successful people and happy people have in common that at some point in their life they made the determination to achieve goals. We will not succeed in something without taking a step just like we won't win the lottery if we don't play.

The first step is to find the goal that motivates you. Something that you really want.

Long-term goals scare and cause us anxiety because they involve a great job that we find impossible to accomplish. But there is a way to do it and it is very simple: divide. Divide your goal into different goals and those goals into small jobs.

A small goal generates less anxiety and greater confidence in being able to overcome it.

Learn to manage your emotions

My father always told me the story of a father who sent his son to plow a huge piece of land to plant the vine. When the son saw the size of the earth he told him that he could not do it, that it was too much work for one alone. The poor man did not see the end and was frustrated.

But then the father said to him: - Take that blanket and put it on the ground. Then pick it up and plow that piece of land. When you finish, do the same again in the next piece. - And that's what the son did.

After a few days of work, the son took one look at the huge piece of land and realized that he had less than half left to plow. A few days later, he finished that job that he saw as impossible. Blanket by blanket the vineyard is not so much.

And what comes next? Well just take a step. One small step will set you on the path. Once you have placed yourself on the path that goes towards your goal, you will only have to take small steps. And it is those small steps that will reinforce your motivation and help you balance negative emotions..

Those small daily actions will give you results. They will bring you closer and you will feel good and motivated so you will continue with more enthusiasm and you will see your goal closer and closer.

As you can see it is possible. Change is possible if you want. Goals can be met.

I have a friend who is sometimes asked why he works so hard, if what he wants is to earn more money. And he replies that he likes to be there in his business. It is what you like, it makes you feel fulfilled and also allows you to live comfortably. Isn't it great?

I know another person who spends hours in the gym and follows a very strict diet. Of course people tell him why he does that, if he doesn't get tired, if he doesn't like to eat more sweets, pizzas and hamburgers. And she also tells them what she likes. She likes to feel strong and healthy and she also wins contests.

Dedicating ourselves to what we like makes us feel fulfilled and therefore makes us feel good and happy. It is the cusp of Maslow's pyramid.
