Probably one of the most frequent questions that each and every student has at some point in their education: "Will I be able to handle my work and my studies at the same time?". The answer is yes.
Although clearly studying and working requires more sacrifices than studying full time, don't worry! Thousands of students have shown that this is not only feasible, but that it is something everyone recommends doing..
Sara López, a Spanish student studying at university in Denmark, and working as a marketing manager, tells us she reveals the secrets to studying, working and having time for oneself based on her experience.
We have all been through a situation where we had to organize ourselves to be able to perform all of our tasks in one time frame.
If instead of doing it occasionally we get used to continually organizing ourselves, we will turn it into a routine. University classes are generally in the morning. For this reason we must try to make the most of class hours. In this way we will not have to invest so much time studying what was given in class.
Another factor to take into account when looking for work is your schedule. If work is going to make us skip class hours, then it is better not to work, or to look for something alternative.
To organize your time well, you have to make an effort to return home from work as soon as possible. Limit your leisure activities and get into a new daily and weekend routine. This will be the first important step.
Sara: In my case, I have class every day until two, except on Mondays when I have free and on Wednesdays, which end at 12. Monday and Wednesday I take the opportunity to go to work and thus not skip any class time. On days when I work, I go home at 5 and try to study what they have given in class. Or focus on the next day in case I don't have time.
The time management includes careful planning of your monthly, weekly, and daily study activities. Once you have familiarized yourself with the study plan, you will be aware of the time you have for yourself, for your free time and the time you have to work..
Always keep in mind that your studies come first. If you don't have time to go out on a Saturday because you haven't studied what you should that week, you have to sacrifice.
Sara: You always have to anticipate unexpected plans and do not overload your daily schedule. Set realistic goals that can be met, otherwise, we will feel frustrated and overwhelmed.
It seems overwhelming, right? Study and work at least 12 hours a week, go to class and then have time for yourself.
Although it seems that we need more than 24 hours a day or that we have to give up our free time, it is not like that. There will be days when you will feel extremely tired. There may even be days when you want to leave everything, because you will feel that you have many things to do., a lot of responsabilities. When this happens it is because you are doing something wrong. Either you are not using time as you should, or you are not in the right job.
Take time to relax, even for half an hour each day. Most of the time, a break that simply involves relaxing and getting out of your daily routine will have a positive effect on your energy and overall efficiency once you return to work or study.
Sara: one of the best techniques to avoid stress is to do sports, such as yoga. Helps you relax and relieve tension. Take an hour or two a week to get some exercise. Also, to be more effective, look for outdoor spaces where you can study and work. Fresh air will help relieve tension.
To sum it up, the moment you decide work and study at the same time you will find a new meaning for the word: "time".
You will learn to plan and maintain a retina from an early age, and that will help you not only to have a greater control over your time but also to mature, and grow as a person. You will begin to be aware of the importance of the little things in life. So you will start to enjoy them. You will be much more aware of what it costs to win things.
It will seem difficult at first, but you will soon realize how you have improved managing your daily activities and your time. After all, it's all a matter of practice.
