Paraphrase cards are a type of card with a particular format (12.5 cm x 19 cm), in which a summary of a text made with the words of the author of the card is placed. Although the recommended size is indicated, it is flexible, since its main function is to summarize a topic to study / investigate or concept.
They are usually widely used as a study tool in subjects that have to do with social sciences and psychology, among others. But not so for the exact sciences, such as mathematics or algebra.
A paraphrase card must be made for each topic that has to be studied, so it is advisable to have them numbered for easy and quick access.
Also, since the paraphrase sheets are made with the personal words and expressions of the person making them, they are not useful for someone else to use..
Some of the most important characteristics of the paraphrase cards are the following:
To make a paraphrase card, the following steps must be followed:
The first thing to do is select the text on which the file will be made and read it in detail.
Then, the paraphrase card is taken and the number corresponding to it is placed, at the top and on the right sector.
Above, on the left sector, the author of the book from which the information has been obtained is placed.
Below this, the title of the book is placed. Below, the topic being discussed is placed, and below it, the page number from which the information was extracted.
Below the above, and centered, the title of the subtopic to be paraphrased is placed.
The paraphrase of the original text is written using its own language and keeping all the important themes of the text.
Optionally, below the summary and to the right, you can leave a note as a reminder.
