Work psychology 7 steps to get a job

We graduate and, with a degree in hand, we feel like we own the world. The end of one stage - the university stage - marks the beginning of another: the world of work.

They are governed by different laws and require, on our part, skills such as: flexibility, adaptability, creativity, organization, planning, tolerance to frustration and motivation.

If you have done an internship while studying, you have an advantage. If not, now is when a tour of zero begins.

The labor market - in constant change - receives offers from a large number of professionals willing to enter it. It's good face it with dynamism, originality, organization and planning.

From occupational psychology we suggest the following 7-step plan, that you can adapt it to your characteristics, preferences and needs.

7-step plan to get a job

  • Design your business card. What should be on it? Personal data, training, areas of expertise and contact details (cell phone, email and social networks). A simple but neat card with a certain aesthetic taste is the ideal.
  • Resume digital and printed, brief and concise, pointing to the achievements you have had in the areas of experience in college work. Attach at the beginning a short cover letter. Another option is to use online or digital resume templates..
  • Study the job market you are targeting. Identify if it is face-to-face or online work. If it's online work, physical borders don't stop you.
  • Search the Internet for companies with vacancies in your specialty. Go to the database or section Do you want to work with us? Complete the online form and, in case the company makes a call, they will summon you by email or telephone contact.
  • Collect information - sorted by alphabetical order, proximity, interest, etc - in one file with the following information: Name of the center, telephone, email, social networks and address. It is a good option to generate the contact through a private message on Facebook or Linkedn.
  • Generate the contact: introduce yourself through an email, communicate your purpose of being available to the company in case they require your services and notify that you attach your CV and cover letter. You say goodbye making it clear that you are at your service for any consultation or personal interview. Under your name at the farewell indicate your contact information.
  • After a week contact the company by means of a telephone call - it is more direct and personal - to corroborate they have received the email. Express that you are available to resend it. If you cannot establish telephone contact, you do it by email.

You can adapt this search to a direct route to the place where you live, since even today there are companies that do not have a website or social networks where to establish contact.

Two characteristics that you should develop especially at this time in your life are: tolerance to frustration and creativity. Closing one door is opening others to new possibilities.

"Walker, there is no path, the path is made by walking"
